One adds volume immediately. The other stimulates your own over time. They are not rivals: they solve different problems.
What PRFM is
PRFM stands for platelet-rich fibrin matrix. It is obtained from a sample of your own blood: it is spun in a centrifuge to separate components and concentrate platelets and growth factors, and that fraction is turned into a gel-like matrix.
That fibrin structure acts as a scaffold: rather than releasing growth factors all at once, it releases them in a more sustained way into the tissue. Because it comes from your own body, it is an autologous material, which substantially reduces the risk of a reaction to the product itself.
At Zenskinsation, EZ Gel is offered for cheeks and tear trough, lips and the jawline. It belongs to the same family as PRP face microneedling and PRFM regenerative injection.
The difference that matters
This is the most repeated question in consultation, so it deserves a plain answer.
| Hyaluronic acid filler | EZ Gel (PRFM) | |
|---|---|---|
| Origin | Standardized synthetic product | Your own blood |
| How it works | Occupies space and provides structure | Releases growth factors that stimulate your own collagen |
| When it shows | Immediately | Progressively |
| Reversibility | Products exist that allow reversal | Reabsorbs naturally |
| Focus | Structural correction | Tissue quality and natural volume |
Put differently: if you need structure and you need it now, hyaluronic acid does that job better. If what you want is improved tissue quality and a more gradual change using your own biology, EZ Gel is the path.
Where each is used
The area strongly shapes the decision. The tear trough, for example, is anatomically delicate: the skin is thin, the transition to the cheek is visible and the margin for error is small. There, a regenerative approach is often attractive for its more discreet behavior.
Along the jawline, where definition and projection are usually the goal, the conversation changes. And in lips, the objective — volume, border definition, hydration — determines the technique more than a preference for one product over another.
How the choice is made
Not by trend, and not by what worked for someone else. It is made by assessing the anatomy of the area, the degree of volume loss, skin quality, previous treatments, your medical history and — very importantly — what you expect to see in the mirror.
In many cases the answer is not "one or the other" but a planned combination, applied at different moments and with different goals. That is precisely what the evaluation is for.
What to expect
With either option, swelling, tenderness or small bruises in the first days are common. How things look in those early days does not represent the result.
With regenerative approaches the change is more gradual by definition, and it is usually planned as a series rather than a single session. Individual response varies: age, skin quality, habits, smoking, sun exposure and general health all influence how much is seen and for how long.
